Meta and PayU launched AI agents for small Indian sellers nine weeks apart, and Shopify let Meta's Muse agent check out with Shop Pay. Agents are now shipping features, and their first jobs sit in chat and payments.

Three launches landed in one quarter. @rounakschindalia counted nine weeks between the first two, both aimed at small businesses in India.
- Meta Business Agent, July 2026. Unveiled for WhatsApp Business users at the WhatsApp Business Summit in Mumbai on July 7 (Indianweb2). It replies to customer questions, suggests products from the catalogue, books appointments and sends the owner a morning summary of missed chats.
- PayU Agent HQ, September 2026. Reported by BusinessToday on September 11. It makes sellers discoverable on ChatGPT and Claude, runs WhatsApp sales journeys and hands refunds and settlement follow-ups to agents.
- Shopify with Muse, September 2026. Shopify partnered with Muse so its agent can shop and check out with Shop Pay across all Shopify stores, @Polymarket posted on September 21. ChannelNews headlined it as Shopify teaming up with Meta to let AI agents complete purchases, and The Next Web reported Meta launching Muse for small businesses, linked to Shopify.
Shoppers are moving at the same time. According to Shopify, 65% of shoppers plan to use AI for at least one shopping task this holiday season, @iancichocki noted, and Shopify now lets AI agents complete purchases on a customer's behalf. Muse passed 5 million downloads in 22 days, @0xgaut wrote. That is buyer demand, not a demo.
gaut@0xgautPersonal AI agents are here, and they’re shopping for us.
Muse has been downloaded more than 5 million times in just 22 days.
AI is no longer just searching. It's choosing.

The first agents mostly start working once the customer arrives
Set side by side, the three launches cover the same stretch of the sale. Most of the work starts after a buyer is already chatting or paying: replying, recommending, collecting, refunding, reconciling. Muse works for the buyer at checkout. The Meta and PayU agents work for the seller.
Chindalia places the Meta and PayU agents at the edge of the business. They reply to buyers, follow payments and see refunds through, work the post calls useful. Chindalia is also building ShopIQ, which chains specialist agents from brand to design to storefront, so the post reads these launches by what they leave undone.
Catalogue, images and storefront still sit with the seller
The heavy work, in Chindalia's view, sits upstream: the catalogue, product images, product video, storefront and ad creative. A seller with 200 designs still does all of it alone.
None of the features listed for the Meta and PayU agents builds those pieces. For a Shopify store owner watching from a distance, that draws a clear line for now. In India, those agents take chat replies, payment tracking and refunds off a seller's desk. The product pages and product data a buyer lands on stay the owner's job.
The Meta and PayU agents fit the first half of Chindalia's distinction: helpers that answer customers. The second half is the bet ShopIQ is making. “An agent that runs the business is a workforce.”
