Wayfair, Walmart and Macy's got there first.
Newegg joins retailers that have sold inside Google's AI since January
Shoppers on Google's surfaces will be able to pay for Newegg orders with Google Pay, Digital Commerce 360 reported on October 12.
This is not Newegg's first AI channel. It already runs Celeste, its own conversational assistant on the Newegg website, and its listings appear in Perplexity's AI search. UCP adds Google to that list.
"Wherever someone asks an AI what to buy, we want Newegg ready to answer," said Montaque Hou, Newegg's CIO.
Newegg is a large retailer. It ranks No. 86 in Digital Commerce 360's Top 1000 Database and No. 429 in the outlet's AI Commerce Rankings.
According to the outlet, Wayfair, Walmart, Macy's and other merchants have supported UCP since Google formally launched it in January 2026. A second group sits behind the protocol itself: Google co-developed UCP with retailers and commerce platforms including Etsy, Shopify, Target, Walmart and Wayfair.
Google keeps adding checkout tools to the UCP hub
On September 16, Search Engine Journal reported a Merchant Center update that adds cart transfer. Shoppers can move items from Google to a merchant's own site and pay there.
Cart transfer is switched on in the UCP hub and requires Cart API support. It skips full product feed setup during validation. The rollout is gradual across the US, with Australia and Canada expected in early 2027.
Merchants with UCP enabled and the Performance role also get a UCP dashboard. It tracks clicks, average order value and cancellations in the checkout process. It is not available through the Merchant API yet.
The same update opened a US beta for Business Agent in YouTube ads: a brand's agent sits inside the ad, and viewers browse products without leaving YouTube. Google is putting agents on more of its surfaces.
Shopify and Meta are building their own rails
Google's protocol is one route among several. In late September, @Polymarket reported that Shopify partnered with Muse so Muse's AI agent can shop and check out with Shop Pay across all Shopify stores. Shopify confirmed that Shop Pay is now a wallet in Muse.

Meta is working on a different layer. Meta and Sierra are building the Personal Agent Protocol (PAP), an open standard with partners including Shopify, Stripe, Walmart, Genesys, Rocket and Instinct, Sam Boboev (@sirojboboev) wrote on LinkedIn. PAP covers identity, authorization and sessions between a shopper's personal agent and a business. Its first version has no native payments.
Boboev lists what already exists: MCP, Google's UCP, the Agentic Commerce Protocol (ACP) and Visa's Trusted Agent Protocol, each handling a different part of how agents transact. Shopify and Walmart show up on both the UCP and PAP partner lists. Merchants face parallel rails, and none of them is the common standard yet.
For merchants still on the sidelines, Newegg is the newest name on a list of large US retailers that already run checkout inside AI Mode, Gemini and Search. The place to watch is the UCP hub in Merchant Center, home to the UCP dashboard and to cart transfer, which is rolling out gradually across the US.
